Fish Film Fry Festival
A couple of events were posted for 2008 that are worth noting. The first one — the !NYFISHFRY2008! — is scheduled for Sunday May 11. MM at MMolluskNYC posted more information, including boards scheduled to make an appearance, on the Ship & Grib blog.
Scheduled for September — the dates haven’t been set yet, and with everything going on in September you might as well block out the whole month — is the NY Surf Film Festival. The New York Surf Film Festival is an event consisting of three days of screenings of independent short and feature films, cult classics, and world premieres from established surf filmmakers. The official Website of the New York Surf Film Festival, www.NYSurfFilm.com will bring the festival experience to the surf community through the streaming of short films, current news, photos and box office information.

Today, This week
Like many Surfers here, September is my favorite month. The weather is (usually) perfect, the humidity disappears, the water stays warm, tropical swells come.
This past weekend was the NYBodyboard.com “NYBB” Pro, where Jeff Hubbard won again. There was also the Belmar Pro and the 15th annual Manasquan Longboard Classic in New Jersey. The Unsound Pro starts in Long Beach, NY tomorrow. Surfers Healing has three camps in the New York area and Wheels 2 Water has their annual Long Beach event this week as well.
In the land of the one day swell, there’s an awful lot going on for a bunch of surfers, many of whom were out catching waves while the city was under attack. Forever scarred in a different way, but still moving forward, giving back and coming back.
A slice of the pie in the faces of the pieces of shit who took many lives, but not the soul of this city and of the surfers that ride its waves.
