I’m not sure if it’s better to end the year or start it in the water, but I woke up looking for a little sumptin’ sumptin’ and that’s just what I got. Hope you all got what you were looking for in ‘07.

Peace.

She Loves me, She Loves me not

Nothing a case of wine, a bouquet of flowers and breakfast in bed can’t resolve (plus dinner, diaper changes through 2008, dusting, laundry, bill paying, cleaning the kitchen, picking up my socks, etc., etc.)

Thanks to “Dorado” for arranging delivery and of course to Josh Hall for the beautiful board.

Salon sur Ton

No word on the board yet– tick-tock, tick-tock. Further complicating matters is that my wife scheduled a salon appointment for 10am on Saturday, at a new place that opened up downstairs from my office. If you’ve been checking reports, you know 10am might not be the best time for a hair cut, so a quick call home resulted in me running downstairs to reschedule her appointment.

It’s a boutique shop in an intimate setting, and of course I walked in while her hairdresser was giving a seminar to a room full of beautiful women. It made it a little difficult to concentrate, but mostly because it reminded me of the time my friend Chris dropped a drill bit off a twelfth story terrace on a job in Chelsea. The bit hit a cement wall and shot like a missile into a neighboring back yard. Fearing he killed someone, he took off to find the bit and face the music.

He returned about an hour later and when I asked what happened, he told me he barged into a battered housewives support group (wearing a white tank top no less), and they asked that he sit down and chat for a while before they let him in the backyard. He admitted to getting a little emotional during the impromptu thereapy session. Chris has always been a good listener.

He never found that bit, but if you’re wondering when to expect a clean up on Saturday, set your clocks for 3pm.

The Dilemma

My Skosh from Josh finally arrived at JFK today — apparently Santa Claus got delayed — and it’s being picked up by a friend who ordered a similar board around the same time that I did. Now my Anniversary is tomorrow and I have a little dilemma: Do I pick up the board or take my wife out to dinner? I’ve logged in 13+ years with my lady (married for six – she had commitment issues but don’t tell her I told you) and zero days in the water with the new arrival. Hmmmm…can I still claim Christmas?

Maybe some surf but maybe not. Maybe a board but maybe not. Christmas is coming no matter what. My two year old son wrote graffiti all over my monitor and on my ottoman — or is it a hassock? Finally, a new story to tell over fish, figs and sambuca.

The Ride

“The road ran, smooth and flawless, precisely fourteen feet wide, the edges trimmed as if by shears, a ribbon of grey concrete, rolled  out over the valley by a giant hand. The ground went in long waves, a slow ascent and then a sudden dip; you climbed, and went swiftly over — but you had no fear, for you knew the magic ribbon would be there, clear of obstructions, unmarred by bump or scar….”
